Fortune: Trump just called for a U.S. sovereign wealth fund. What would that look like?

Speaking at the Economic Club of New York on Thursday, Trump called for the creation of a sovereign wealth fund—a term that describes state-owned organizations that operate like hedge funds or private equity firms, pursuing different financial strategies such as buying up stock in public companies or backing startups and other private companies.

Forbes: Trump Proposes Sovereign Wealth Fund For U.S.—What To Know About The State-Owned Budget

Trump made the proposal during a speech at The Economic Club of New York, questioning why the U.S. does not have a sovereign wealth fund and saying his administration would make the country’s own fund “to invest in great national endeavors for the benefit of all of the American people.”

CBS News: Trump says he'd put Elon Musk in charge of proposed efficiency commission "if he has the time"

Speaking to The Economic Club of New York, Trump said the commission's creation came "at the suggestion of Elon Musk," and Trump said it would be tasked with "conducting a complete financial and performance audit of the entire federal government and making recommendations for drastic reforms."

Barron's: Trump Outlines Economic Ideas, Federal Efficiency Panel

“As soon as I get to office, we will make housing much more affordable,” Trump said in a speech to the Economic Club of New York that criticized the Biden administration’s economic record and touted his own agenda. “As inflation is tamed, interest rates will dramatically fall.”

ABC NEWS: Election 2024 Latest: Trump and Harris zero in on economic policy plans ahead of first debate

The two presidential nominees are using the week before their debate to sharpen their economic messages about who could do more for the middle class. Vice President Kamala Harris discussed her policy plans on Wednesday in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, while Donald Trump will address the Economic Club of New York on Thursday.

NEW YORK TIMES: Election Live Updates: Harris Supporters Stump in Florida, Focusing on Reproductive Rights

Ms. Harris will hold a campaign event in New Hampshire on Wednesday, and that night Mr. Trump will hold a town hall in Pennsylvania that will be televised on Fox News. On Thursday, Mr. Trump will speak remotely to a gathering of the Republican Jewish Coalition in Las Vegas and in person at the Economic Club of New York.

CNN: Harris and Trump take different approaches as September debate nears

Trump, meanwhile, is ramping up his appearances after skipping Labor Day campaigning. The former president will virtually headline the Republican Jewish Coalition’s Annual Leadership Summit in Las Vegas on Wednesday and deliver a speech at the Economic Club of New York on Thursday before holding a rally in in Mosinee, Wisconsin, on Saturday.

Williams, President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, who completed two terms and will continue as a Trustee. Dr. Dambisa Moyo, Member, House of Lords, Co-Founder, Versaca Investments, and Author, has been elevated to Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees and Chair of the Finance and Investment Committee. New Trustees elected to the Board of Trustees include ECNY Members Sander Gerber, Managing Partner, CEO & CIO, Hudson Bay Capital; Erika James, Dean, Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania; and Jeff Schoenfeld, Retired General Partner, Brown Brothers Harriman.
